Barrowby CE Primary School children take part in a wide range of activities in our local and wider community, including participation in Sporting, Arts, and Musical events and performances, as well as Church events. The children have the opportunity to participate in a range of exciting visits and themed whole school days throughout their time at Barrowby.

Educational Visits

Recent day visits to support and enhance the curriculum have included:

Reception and Year 1:     

White Post Farm

Our reception and Year 1 classes visit to White Post Farm is fun and engaging. This gives children the chance to learn more about a range of animals and how to care for them. This links to their topic 'Open Your Eyes'.

Baytree Owl Centre

During our topic, 'Homes and Habitats', Reception and Year 1 visit Baytree Owl Centre to explore how different small animals live and survive in their habitats. 

Year 1 and 2:      

Rutland Water

Children in Year 1 and 2 classes enjoy the opportunity to visit Rutland Water, through active learning and practical investigation pupils are encourages to respect the environment and develop further an understanding as to why maintenance of the natural world is important to humans.

The pupils enjoy a range of activities including: birdwatching, pond dipping, and water cleaning:

 - Observing plants and animals in their own particular habitat; and

 - Learning more about how animals have adapted to their environment.

Woodside Wildlife Park

During the 'Open Your Eyes' topic, our Year 1 and 2 classes visit Woodside Wildlife Park. During this visit, they have the opportunity to see various forms of wildlife up close, and enhance their curiosity and awe and wonder about the world in which they live.

Year 3:  

Flag Fen

During the 'Stone Age' topic, our Year 3 children visit Flag Fen Archaeology Park.

St Philips Centre, Leicester

As part of our ongoing work to broaden our pupil's experiences, our Year 3 children enjoy a visit to the St Philips Centre in Leicester, as part of their RE studies. Whilst at the centre, they will participate in faith based 'compare and contrast' interactive learning and activities:

Our Year 3 pupils visit a Hindu Temple;

This visit provides the children with the opportunity to speak to different faith practitioners, as they learn more about the history and development of worship thus deepening their understanding of the world in which they live.

Yorkshire Wildlife Park   

Our Year 3 pupils enjoy a visit to the award-winning Yorkshire Wildlife Park. The pupils explore a range of interactive activities, through 'hands on' experiences. During the visit, the children gain a greater appreciation and understanding of the animal world.

Year 4:       

Residential

During the Autumn term, our Year 4 pupils are offered an 'outdoor and adventurous' residential visit. Learning outside of the classroom is most effective when it's fun, outdoor adventure activities which encourage the development of social and communication skills. Team building, resilience, self-confidence, a breath of fresh air and making memories to last a lifetime. Our typical visit consists of 2 days with an overnight stay.   

Year 5 :  

St Philips Centre, Leicester

Our Year 5 pupils visit a mosque;

This visit provides the children with the opportunity to speak to different faith practitioners, as they learn more about the history and development of worship thus deepening their understanding of the world in which they live.

Residential

During the Summer term, our Year 5 pupils enjoy the opportunity of our 'Adventure Experience' where they camp overnight on the school grounds and enjoy a range of exciting outdoor activities including: Orienteering around the village, Bird's of Prey Exhibition and an outdoor 'Silent Cinema.'

Year 6:      

London Residential

Our Year 6 children enjoy a 'cultural' residential visit, in the Summer Term. This is a wonderful experience for the children and a typical visit would include the following -

• Coach travel to and from London, a river cruise from The London Eye to the Tower of London, Sightseeing Tour, Dinner at The Rainforest Café, West End Theatre Performance.
• Overnight stay in a hotel, with day 2 including breakfast and a further London experience, for example a London Museum before the return home. 

Funding

We provide a very wide range of exciting and  inspiring visits, activities, and visitors in school to enhance our children's learning. In order to do this, it is sometimes necessary to request a contribution form parents/carers. There are also some aspects of school life for which a charge is made.
